At Algos, our mission is to assist the pharmaceutical, medical device and biotech industries in their pursuit of improving quality of life for humans suffering from chronic, painful conditions. A vital component of these programs is the use of rodents to assess the potential utility of novel pain therapies. Accordingly, program success is contingent upon appropriate concern for the health and well being of the research subjects. Therefore, our laboratory adheres to and exceeds the highest ethical and scientific standards when conducting in vivo studies.
Committed to the “Three R’s”
Many in vivo models have been created to mimic various human conditions, and new ones continue to be developed. Because of the myriad technical and animal welfare issues that arise in the course of these studies, Algos adheres to the ethical guidelines described in the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, as well as the Guidelines for the Care and Use of Mammals in Neuroscience and Behavioral Research, including oversight by a fully compliant Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC). At Algos, we are committed to the “three R’s” of animal research: reduction in the numbers of animals used, replacement of animal models with in vitro or computer models, and refinement of techniques to minimize discomfort and improve animal welfare.
Adherent to the Highest Ethical Guidelines
Algos adheres to the national and regional guidelines that address the humane care, use and treatment of laboratory animals. Our procedures clearly explain these recommendations, thus ensuring that all research performed on live vertebrate animals will be performed humanely. We believe that the policies and procedures established in these policies are both necessary and sufficient to ensure the highest ethical standard of animal care and use.
