 Algos
is proud to be aligned with a renowned and distinguished panel
of scientists; all who have been recognized for their pioneering
work in neurophysiology, neuropharmacology, and related biotechnologies
as they relate to pain research.
Robert P. Elde, Ph.D.
Dr. Elde
is an internationally recognized expert on the primary neurons
that transduce painful stimuli. He is currently the J.B.
Johnston Land Grant Professor of Neuroscience and the Dean of the
College of Biological Sciences at the University of Minnesota. Dr.
Elde is best known for his pioneering work on neuropeptides and
on describing the distribution of pain-related proteins within
the nervous system. He has published over 200 peer-reviewed
scientific papers. As Dean of the College of Biological Sciences,
he was instrumental in raising $10 million to establish a center
for plant and microbial genomics. Dr. Elde has previously
served on Scientific Advisory Boards and collaborated with industry
on various research projects.

R. Alan North, M.B., Ch.B./Ph.D.
Dr. North
is one of the world's most renowned scientists in the area of the
molecular biology and biophysics of neurotransmission. Most
notably, his laboratory discovered and cloned the P2X family of
ATP-gated ion channels. Dr. North currently is the Vice President
and Dean of Life Sciences at the University of Manchester, England.
He was formerly the Director of the Institute of Molecular Physiology
at the University of Sheffield. He has held faculty posts at MIT,
where he was promoted to full professor, the Vollum Institute in
Portland, Oregon, and Loyola University in Chicago. Dr. North also
served as principal scientist at the Glaxo Institute for Molecular
Biology, a research arm of the Glaxo Wellcome Corporation. At Glaxo,
he established high-throughput screening methodologies and set
priorities for company-wide central nervous system research. Dr.
North has received numerous honors, including being named a Fellow
of the Royal Society of London (equivalent to being a member of
the National Academy of Science in the US) and a Fellow of the
Royal College of Physicians.

Bruce I. Idelkope, MD
Currently Vice President of the Minneapolis Clinic of Neurology where he
has practiced the specialty of Neurology for over 27 years. Also an
Associate Professor of Neurology for the University of Minnesota where he
has taught in the Department of Family Practice and the Department of
Neurology for over 20 years. Specializing in evaluating and treating
patients with Adult Neurological Disorders with unique expertise in
Neuro-Rehabilitation and Stroke. Currently, a Director of the Minneapolis
Clinic of Neurology and Medical Director of the Clinic's Department of
Rehabilitation which specializes in treatment of patients with chronic pain,
musculoskeletal disorders, headache, and various neuromuscular diseases.
Christopher N. Honda, Ph.D.
Dr. Honda is a Professor in the Neuroscience Department at the University of Minnesota. He earned his doctorate in Neurobiology from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill under the direction of E.R. Perl. Prior to joining the faculty at Minnesota in 1989, he received postdoctoral training in the laboratories of W.D. Willis at the University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston and E.G. Jones at the University of California, Irvine. Dr. Honda has been active in pain research for over twenty years, and he has published extensively on functional, neurochemical, and morphological mechanisms contributing to pain at peripheral, spinal, and thalamic levels. His current research interests are centered on the regulation of peripheral opioid analgesic systems, and during the last several years he has devoted much of his time to collaborations and consultations with industry.
